How to make a DIY spice rack using inexpensive cooling racks

Lori is the voice behind The Stonybrook House, a DIY blog covering topics from tulip wreaths and coffee filter peonies to planter boxes and concrete pavers. On her BlogHer profile, Lori explains she started her blog after her children left home and she found herself with extra time. She decided to make her home into a project and to document each step of the home makeover. "I share all the ins and outs the ups and downs of transforming this house into a home," explains Lori.
In addition to writing about her home renovations, Lori blogs about her hobbies, which include gardening, baking, painting, crafting, sewing and crocheting. No matter what the project, Lori and her husband promised one another to accomplish each task by themselves, at the lowest cost possible, "without sacrificing quality and style." One of our favorite posts by Lori is a DIY spice rack that cost only $3 to make and looks better than any store-bought option.

To make her spice rack, Lori repurposed wire cooling racks purchased at The Dollar Tree.
Simply use pliers to bend the legs, making them as flat as possible. Use ribbon or another material to secure the sides. And you're done! Screw the spice racks to your pantry door and enjoy all the extra space on your pantry shelves.

Cooling racks have many uses beyond their designated functions. Greygarious on Chowhound suggests using cooling racks for drying small clothing items that need to be dried flat, and pressing halved eggs or pitted avocados into the grids to cube them, while a user on ThriftyFun employs cooling racks when washing fruits and vegetables and as extra counter space.
